Myth 1: "80% of the area will get rain"

Forecast probabilities in weather apps are for a point — the place you searched — not a share of the map. Some broadcast forecasts do blend area into their wording, but the number on your phone is the chance of rain where you are. A summer day of scattered thunderstorms might give everywhere a 40% chance precisely because nobody knows which towns will catch a storm and which will stay dry all afternoon.

Myth 2: "It will rain for 80% of the time"
